Gamal al-Ghitani, writer and novelist described the funeral of His Holiness Pope Shenouda III as an imposing funeral that’s similar to the funeral of the great president Gamal Abdel-Nasser which he had experienced himself and lasted for three days. It is also likened to the funeral of the great leader Saad Zaghloul which many times the Nobel prize winner and writer, Naguib Mahfouz, had talked about.
Al-Ghitani talked about the great value of Pope Shenouda in contemporary history of Egypt as a symbol of patriotism, whose wisdom and belonging could keep Egypt safe through many crises.
About his relationship with the Pope Shenouda, He said that he knew him closely in his exile at Wadil Natrun monasteries where many intellectuals and writers visited and loved him.
Al-Ghitani said that it is very important that a real representation of Copts should exist in the committee drafting the constitution. He rejected such attempts of the majority in the Parliament to control that committee for their own benefit.
