Former manpower minister implicated in seizing LE40 mn

Investigations by the Public Funds Prosecution have revealed that Nahed Ashry, the former manpower minister and head of the Workers' Benefits Fund, has been implicated, along with 20 members of the Workers Benefits Fund Board of Directors and representatives of the trade unions, in seizing LE40 million from the fund in the form of bonuses from 2007 to 2014.Investigations by the Public Funds Prosecution have revealed that Nahed Ashry, the former manpower minister and head of the Workers' Benefits Fund, has been implicated, along with 20 members of the Workers Benefits Fund Board of Directors and representatives of the trade unions, in seizing LE40 million from the fund in the form of bonuses from 2007 to 2014.

Prosecutors said that although the law prohibits the disbursement of bonuses without the Cabinet’s prior approval, the former minister and others seized LE2.3 million in 2014 alone, which the Cabinet disapproved, adding that they deposited the money back in the fund when they heard that the Public Prosecution is investigating the matter.
