Egypt presses upgrading Arabic E-content

CAIRO - Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif recently has urged action to upgrade the Arabic electronic content to maintain Egypt's lead in the communications domain.

The culture, education, media, scientific research and communications sectors should work together to set the basis for electronic development, he told the Cabinet meeting late Wednesday.

Communications Minister Tareq Kamel reviewed a report on information technology achievements between 2005 and 2010 as part of President Hosni Mubarak electoral platform, Cabinet spokesman Magdi Radi said.

The communications sector has contributed some LE 40 billion to state coffers over the past four years, Kamel said.

He added that 3,500 companies are now working in the communications and IT field.
