Mubarak pledges more reforms

CAIRO--President Hosni Mubarak Sunday night pledged to continue reforms in order to "create a modern civil country and a vigorous society" in Egypt.

Addressing a religious ceremony in Cairo, he said there would be more work in the period ahead in order to regain high economic growth rates and promote social justice.

"Egypt will remain a bastion of Islam and a symbol of moderate Islam, keeping the unity of its Muslim and Coptic people," he said.

. Mubarak cited cutting joblessness, creating more jobs and "supporting the poor and the marginalised" as topping his agenda of priorities.
