Pope congratulates the president on Sinai liberation day

The Coptic Orthodox Church, headed by Pope Twadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark See, congratulated President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and the Egyptian people on the liberation of Sinai national feast.

In its statement, the church wished Egypt all development, prosperity and peace.

Sinai liberation day is a public holiday in Egypt which celebrates the liberation of the land of Sinai from occupation back to Egyptian sovereignty[1]. It is the anniversary of the liberation of the peninsula of Sinai corresponding to April 25 of each year, celebrating the day in 1982 when Egypt recovered the land of Sinai and the withdrawal of the last Israeli soldier from the city of Taba in 1988.
