Pope Tawadros invites congregation to benefit from fasting

In his sermon during the inauguration ceremony of St. George Church in Ain Shams, Pope Tawadros II invited the congregation to benefit from the great lent by reading in the Holy Bible, fasting and making mercy.

Pope added that the journey of the holy fasting has three main stops; the first teaches us to reduce the amount of food and useless talk and fill the mouth with prayers instead.

The story of the Samaritan woman is the second stop that teaches us that the water of the world doesn’t fill us, but the words of God.

The third stop comes at the end of the Great Lent where we hear the harsh words from (Matthew 23 37-38) : ‘O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! See! Your house is left to you desolate’.
