Show us some respect

For years, prices in Egypt are going up and never stop increasing. This is indeed very hard if you think about it. But the real problem is that about 30 percent of Egypt’s population lives below the poverty line and the increasing prices make them suffer more and more.

Yesterday, the government announced that there is no intention to raise the prices of gasoline, diesel and butane gas. Yet, today the Council of Ministers of Egypt approved petrol new price list imposed on gasoline, diesel and butane gas.

It is worth mentioning that the Egyptian government issued a decision raising prices of fuel, diesel, butane gas and natural gas by up to 47 percent last November. This was 24 hours after Egypt’s central bank (CBE) floated the pound currency devaluing it against all foreign currencies.

The current round of fuel price increase would make Egyptians struggle even more in attempts to cope with the new price hikes, but the government has to show the Egyptians some respect and not to tell something in the evening and do exactly the opposite in the next morning.
