Zamalek announces Moemen Soliman as permanent coach

Zamalek's interim coach Moemen Soliman will remain in charge of the Cairo giants in the new season, club chairman Mortada Mansour announced in a press conference Saturday.

"We have agreed to keep Soliman as the club head coach in the new season as we have a lot confidence in him," Mansour revealed.

"Depending on an Egyptian coach in a big club like Zamalek is an experience that deserves full support. I am happy that we depended before on Mohamed Helmi and Mido, and now it is the time to support Soliman," the chairman added.

Zamalek's management recently opened talks with several foreign coaches to lead the team before settling on keeping Soliman.

A mediocre Zamalek player in the 1990s, Soliman became a stop-gap coach following the sacking of Mohamed Helmi late in July, tasked with restoring confidence in a side that lost the league title to archrivals Ahly.

He quickly became the club's hero after guiding the White Knights to win the Egypt Cup at the expense of Ahly before going through to the Champions League semis.

Zamalek reached their first Champions League semis in 11 years after defeating Nigerian side Enyimba in Cairo 15 August.

Soliman will be assisted by veteran former club star Mohamed Salah.
