Ahly coach Martin Jol promises to meet fans' expectations

Ahly's Dutch coach Martin Jol has announced that he is working to bring new players to the team for the new season, promising the new signings will meet fans' expectations.

"We are working to sign new players to fill in the absence of the stars that left the team and injured players," Jol told reporters during Friday's training session.

"The newly signed players are expected to achieve our tactics to meet the fans' expectations," he added.

The Cairo giants are already struggling to cope with some major absences, especially following moves by Ramadan Sobhi to Stoke City and Malick Evouna to China's Tianjin Teda, and their cause was not helped when they were forced to make three unscripted substitutions due to injuries.

Despite the absences, Ahly took an African Champions League lifeline following a precious 1-0 victory over Wydad Casablanca in Rabat last Wednesday.

The Red Devils are set to face Smouha in the Egypt Cup quarter-finals on Monday, and the winner will face ENPPI in the tournament's semis.

"We have to forget the Wydad game and concentrate on the Smouha game," Jol said.

"Playing against Smouha won't be easy as the Cup games always have another tactic," the Dutch coach concluded.
