“20 Q&A on Islam and Women” available in UK, Holland
Moroccan writer Asmaa al-Merabet’s book “20 Questions and Answers on Islam and Women from a reformist vision” has been issued in English in the U.K. and the Netherlands. The book touches on ethics cited in the Quran in relations to the relationship between the opposite sexes and tackles concepts in the holy book on the benefits of equality between genders.
The book also talks about the contemporary crisis of Muslim women between an extremist vision and a Westernized vision with a unilateral idea of Islam.
Events today in Cairo
The Cultural Development Fund will hold a tannura show at Wekalet el-Ghouri in Old Cairo, feature films on Ramadan will be displayed at Hanager Center and an exhibition of books and traditional handicrafts will be available at the Opera.
Live workshops at Wekalet el-Ghouri will also be held on using wood, glass and textiles in art.
June 30 events in Cairo
Cultural and art events at al-Nasr Gate, Gamaliya Street and Northern Cairo Wall Theater will be held June 30 at 9 p.m. by the General Authority for Cultural Places to celebrate the June 30 mass protests of 2013.
In Garden City, Northern Cairo Wall Theater will present folkloric and dance performances as well as a play. At Nasr Gate, a number of poets will recite their works. On Gamaliya Street, a tannura performance and other shows will be presented all the way from Ghouri Palace until Nasr Gate.
JICA renews aid for GEM for 3 years
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) aid to the Grand Egyptian Museum will be renewed for three years, it includes transferring antiquities in critical conditions such as King Tut Ankh Amen’s textiles and chariots and a group of monuments that belonged to King Sneferu.
The aid is separate from the Japanese loan provided to finish preparing the museum. The aid also involves restoration of monuments and setting them for display.
Civilization Coordination requests 13% increase to beautify squares
The Civilizational Coordination Authority requested a 13% increase in its budget but has received any feedback thus far, head of the authority Mohamed Abu Seda told Youm7 Tuesday.
The budget increase aims to beautify squares and increase branches of the authority in governorates to monitor work related to it and detect violations, Abu Seda said.
