Fourth Egypt-Cyprus-Greece trilateral summit kicks off in Cairo Tuesday

Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades arrived in Cairo late Monday to take part in a tripartite summit with leaders from Greece and Egypt on mutual cooperation between the three countries, state news agency MENA reported.

A Greek ministerial delegation, headed by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is expected in Cairo shortly for the fourth round of the summit, which will be held at a Cairo presidential palace later on Tuesday.

The gathering will look at means to put into action mutual projects agreed in previous summits, mainly in the fields of agriculture, tourism, energy and maritime transport.

The three sides will discuss means to "boost counterterrorism cooperation" as well as pressing security issues including illegal migration and the situation in war-torn Syria and Libya, MENA said.

The summit agenda includes discussing the development of maritime transport networks between the three countries, bolstering tourism as well as exploring and transporting Egypt's and Cyprus' offshore natural gas, the Greek embassy said in a statement.

The first trilateral summit was held in Cairo in November 2014, the second in Nicosia in April 2015 and the third in Athens in December 2015.
