Brookings: Egypt can afford only three more months of food and fuel imports

Brookings, a private nonprofit organization devoted to independent research and innovative policy solutions, said in a report “Egypt is at the edge of bankruptcy; it has enough reserves to pay for food and fuel imports for only three more months; the government and the opposition are locked in a game of chicken”.

“The economy is sinking, political conflict is rising and the security situation is deteriorating” report added.

While inviting president Mohammed Morsy to lead a democratic transition now, report has invited the American Administration to reconsider its policy with the Egyptian government as well as all military and economic aid to Egypt.
