Andrea Zaki: Absence of Christian leaders raises doubts about the Constitution

Dr. Rev. Andrea Zaki, Vice-President of the Anglican Communion has criticized the criteria for selecting the one hundred members of the Committee drafting the new constitution.

Zaki told Copts United that church has not been asked to nominate any representative of the Evangelical Church, denying that Dr. Rafiq Habib is a representative of the Church.

Zaki said that the absence of representation of Egyptian churches clearly reflects discrimination, since there are many Islamic religious leaders within the Committee, which raises doubts and dismisses them from participation for no good reason. A statement is about to be issued in few hours.

The Coptic members of the Constitution founding committee are: Ehab Kharrat, Mona Makram Ebeid, Magdy Shenouda, Rafiq Habib and Nabil Merham. Ehab Kharrat is said to withdraw because of the withdrawal of his party, the Egyptian democratic Party.
