The delegation, representing the US Congress, was headed by Congressman Rob Wittman, the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee’s Subcommittee on Readiness, according to Egyptian presidency spokesperson Alaa Youssef.

The meeting was also attended by US ambassador to Cairo Robert Beecroft and Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry.

During the meeting, El-Sisi praised the resumption in March of US military aid to Egypt, which was temporarily halted following the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.

The United States delivered to Egypt eight F-16 fighter jets in July and four others in October of this year as part of a $3.2 billion deal signed between the two countries in 2009.

The deal stipulates that Egypt should receive a total of 20 F-16 Block 52 aircraft, eight of which were delivered in 2013.
