The imams are from Kafr el-Sheikh, Sharqia, Fayoum and Dakahlia, according to a statement by the Ministry of Endowment Wednesday.

The ministry warned against embracing “extremist ideology” or allowing any form of political endorsement ahead of the parliamentary elections.

The inspection department of the ministry monitors mosques regularly to check on imam’s adherence to the ministry’s instructions in terms of sermon content and duration.

In the aftermath of the 2013 ouster of President Mohamed Morsi, the Endowment Ministry banned all unlicensed preachers from delivering speeches at mosques. However, even licensed preachers who delivered anti-regime sermons or speeches in support of the Brotherhood have been fired.
