The latest official figures set the number of Egyptians who died at 181, with 53 missing and 10 injured.

The ministry broke down the figures of dead or missing pilgrims according to those who traveled with organised delegations and those who traveled independently.

The religious endowment ministry said it is following up with the Egyptian consulate in Jeddah.

On Monday, the foreign ministry said six Egyptians who were among those considered lost in the stampede tragedy in Saudi Arabia turned out to have returned home safely.

Saudi Arabia is conducting investigations into the tragedy, which left over 1000 dead, according to unofficial estimates.

The stampede took place on 24 September at a site in Mena where pilgrims throw pebbles at a wall representing Satan.

Almost two million pilgrims took part in the stoning ritual this year, with an estimated 62,000 Egyptians performing the hajj in 2015.
