MB supreme guide, two others get life in prison in 'Rabaa task force' case

Giza Criminal Court sentenced on Monday Muslim Brotherhood (MB) Supreme Guide Mohamed Badei and two others to life in prison, 15 defendants to 5 years rigorous imprisonment and acquitted 21 others in the case publicly known as the "Rabaa Task Force" case.

In December, the Court of Cassation accepted the appeal of 37 defendants against a criminal court's rulings that had sentenced some of them to life in prison and others to the death penalty.

In April, 14 Muslim Brotherhood members and leaders were sentenced to death and others to life in prison.

The Rabaa Task Force case dates back to the sit-in staged in 2013 by MB supporters and sympathizers of toppled President Mohamed Morsi at Rabaa al-Adaweya mosque in Nasr City.

The defendants were charged with managing a task force to direct the movements of MB members aimed at confronting the state and creating chaos through storming and burning police stations, private property and churches.
