Muslim Brotherhood recognizes Libyan counterpart

Leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt said that recognizing the Libyan Brotherhood has been an occasion long awaited by the group, especially since they were separated by former Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi.

“We have been recognized in Egypt by the law and the constitution since 1928,” said Sayed Nazily, member of the group’s Shura Council.

Nasser al-Hafy, a member of the Freedom and Justice Party’s legal committee, said that what happened to the group in Libya was a manifestation of democracy. “It has achieved its objectives after Qadhafi used to execute its members,” he said.

“Recognizing the Brotherhood in Libya does not affect our legal situation,” Hafy said, adding that the new law on NGOs would consolidate the group’s position.
