Rabia, Gamal registered domestically to boost Ahly amid injury crisis

Ahly defender Ramy Rabia and striker Amr Gamal have officially been registered in the club s domestic squad, the club announced on Wednesday.

"After a meeting on Wednesday, the technical staff decided to register Rabia and Gamal in the domestic squad," Ahly s football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz told the club s official website.

Rabia, 25, and Gamal, 27, were recently on Ahly s waiting list, as Rabia had been out of action since being injured in his knee on January 2017, while Gamal had been abroad since 2017, playing on loan for South Africa s Bidvest and Wits HJK Helsinki of Finland.

Registering Gamal and Rabia will be a good boost for Ahly s coach Martin Lasarte, who already suffers from missing many key players due to different injures.

"Registering the two vacant places in the African squad will be determined in the coming few hours," the football director added.

On Monday, defending champions Ahly defeated Wadi Degla 2-1 in the Egyptian Premier League, cutting Zamalek s lead down to nine points.

The victory is Martin Lasarte s second in three league games, putting Ahly at 33 points from 16 games, while Zamalek is at 42 points from 17 games.

Ahly will be hosting Tanzanian side Simba SC on Saturday in the third round of the CAF Champions League group stage. The Cairo club leads Group D with four points.
