Egypts Ahly submit request to host Champions League game in Cairo

Egyptian giants Ahly submitted a request to the country s football association to hold an African Champions League game against Guinea s Horoya AC in Cairo later this month.

The record-seven time African champions have been staging most of their Champions League games at Alexandria s Borg El-Arab Stadium over the past few years, given security concerns in the capital.

However, the club insisted they needed to move their games to Cairo after African governing body CAF said last month that attendance should not be less than 75 percent of the stadium s capacity.

Ahly host Horoya in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals on 22 September. The first leg takes place in Conakry on Friday.

"The club s administration has sent the Egyptian FA a letter asking them to inform security officials, for the second time, of [the desire] to hold the return leg against Horoya at Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo," Ahly said in a statement.

"CAF has decided to move the match to Al-Salam Stadium upon the club s request, given that attendance at Borg El-Arab Stadium did not meet their standards.

"The club asked the Egyptian FA for a quick response so that it can take the necessary procedures to host the match."

The Egyptian FA must be given the go-ahead from the interior ministry to change the designated venue of any game.
