The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Sunday evening extending Egypt s condolences to the US government and the victims  families.

The statement also asserted the solidarity of Egypt s people and government with the American people in this difficult time.

The deadly incident took place at the First Baptist Church, in Sutherland Springs, Texas, some 30 miles from San Antonio.

A gunman wearing a bulletproof vest opened fire with an assault rifle on the church congregation, killing 26 people and wounding 20 more in the nation s latest shooting massacre.

US police sources have told the New York Times that the gunmen was identified as 26-year-old Devin Kelley, who was discharged from the Air Force in 2012.

The sources said that the alleged gunmen was found dead shortly after the attack.

The foreign ministry also said that criminal acts of this sort, which reflect extremist thinking and the degradation of human dignity, pose a threat to the whole world.
