Ahly maintain 100% Egyptian league record to move top

Defending champions Ahly made it five wins out of five after cruising to an easy 2-0 Egyptian league victory over minnows Aswan at Cairo's Petrosport Stadium on Thursday.

Following an insipid goalless first-half, strikes from Moemen Zakareya and substitute Walid Soliman settled the tie in Ahly's favor as they continued their high-flying start to their league campaign.

The Cairo giants are now on top of the league table on 15 points, three ahead of closest rivals Smouha who succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Masry earlier on the day.

Apart from a backward effort from Aswan Ghanaian striker Abdul Adu and an Abdallah El-Said strike that was kept away by the keeper at the opposite end, the opening period witnessed no real chances to either side.

The action then started two minutes after the break when Zakareya hit home from inside the area after Aswan keeper Reda El-Sayed parried a cross from Karim 'Nedved' into the Egypt international's path.

Ex-Ahly left-back Ahmed Shedid threatened for Aswan via a free kick in the 72nd minute, but the full-back's effort narrowly missed the target.

But it was another free-kick that eventually found the net when Soliman, who replaced right-sided midfielder Nedved, saw his placed effort beat the keeper at the near post for Ahly's second of the night.
