Egypt set to find out Nations Cup opponents in Wednesday draw

Egypt will find out who they will meet at next January's African Cup of Nations in Gabon when the tournament's draw takes place in Libreville on Wednesday.

The Pharaohs, record holders with seven titles, have qualified for the biennial tournament for the first time since 2010 after topping a three-team group featuring Nigeria and Tanzania, with Argentinean coach Hector Cuper fulfilling his first task at the helm.

Egypt will make a record-extending 23rd Nations Cup appearance, having missed out on only eight tournaments including the 2012, 2013 and 2015 editions after being dearly affected by political turmoil in the country.

They were seeded third along with Cameroon, Senegal and Morocco, meaning the four continent heavyweights will not face each other in the group stage.

The top seeds are Gabon, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Algeria.

Egypt embarked on a rebuilding process under Cuper, who put extra emphasis on tightening what was a largely porous defence in the last few years.

They made a convincing start to their World Cup Group E qualifying campaign, claiming a 2-1 victory away to Congo earlier this month.

Egypt's last Nations Cup participation in 2010 saw them secure an unprecedented third successive triumph after beating Ghana 1-0 in the final.

The Nations Cup will take place in Gabon from 14 January to 5 February next year.
