Egypt’s foreign affairs council extends solidarity with Saudi Arabia over JASTA
The Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs (ECFA) on Tuesday said it supports Saudi Arabia in rejecting the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) recently passed by the US Congress, which allows the families of 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia for damages.

In a statement, the council said the law “raises several legal violations and contradicts US government’s commitment to provisions of the Charter of the United Nations which stated the immunity of the sovereignty of the U.S state members.”

It also contradicts the UN Charter “which asserts the validity of the laws of each state within its borders only,” the statement said, adding that this “unilateral law is an invitation to serious chaos in international relations as it opened the door for all countries to pass similar laws,” the statement added.

JASTA was passed by US Congress last week. It allows American administration to sue foreign countries for acts of terrorism that kill Americans in the US territories.

It was passed by a 97-1 vote by the Senate to override a veto by President Barack Obama.
