Health minister to announce HCV national survey covers 10m people
Health Minister Ahmed Emad el Din on Tuesday will launch a national demographic Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) survey to be carried out on 10 million Egyptians, Youm7 reported.

The survey, which marks the health ministry’s celebrations of the Egyptian Hepatitis Day, will be carried out on six categories of the Egyptian people including university students, prisoners and medical crews.

President Abdel Fatah al Sisi, officials from the World Health Organization (WHO) will be present during the celebration.

Egypt hosted the World Hepatitis Day 2015 as the country has demonstrated a high level of commitment by tackling hepatitis comprehensively in their plan of action for prevention, care and treatment 2014–2018, the WHO said in a statement last year.

Egypt has the highest prevalence of HCV in the world, with approximately 22 percent of Egyptian blood donors testing positive for the deadly disease, according to a 2015 survey published by the WHO.
