Egypt freestyle wrestler Inas Mostafa misses out on bronze medal

Egypt's freestyle wrestler Inas Mostafa missed out on the chance of giving Egypt its third bronze medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games after losing to Kazakhstan's Elmira Syzdykova in the third-place contest in the women's 69kg category.

Mostafa, gold medalist at last year's African Championship, lost 7-4 by a technical points decision, her second defeat on Wednesday after she lost to Russia's Nataliya Vorobyova following a surprising run to the semi-final.

She became the first ever Egyptian woman to reach the semis in wrestling and the best wrestler among the team at Rio so far.

Mostafa lost 4-2 to Vorobyova, gold medalist at the 2012 London Games and last year's World Championship, but had a chance to redeem herself, only to fail to overcome Syzdykova.

The 27-year-old qualified for the semis with a 5-1 victory over Brazilian Gilda Maria De Oliveira in the quarters.

Mostafa had the better of Marie De Oliveira, having been barely affected by the Brazilian fan cheers, winning by fall when the score was 1-1.

She reached the quarterfinals after beating Venezuela's Maria Jose Acosta 8-0, excelling with a convincing win by a points decision to advance to the last eight.

Egypt has only won two bronze medals at the ongoing Rio Games, both in Weightlifting.
