After he tested positive for a banned substance following a doping test in April, Egypt’s most promising Javelin thrower Ihab Abdel-Rahman revealed that he knew nothing about the doping test, confirming that he has been wronged and needs the sports minster’s support.
"I know nothing and I don't know what happened as I didn't deal with any banned substance," Abdel-Rahman told a television programme late on Sunday.
"I need the sports minister’s support," he added.
Ihab Abdel-Rahman tested positive for a banned substance following a doping test in April and now may miss next month's Olympic Games, the country's Olympic committee chief Hisham Hatab announced on Sunday.
"I tested negative in the previous doping tests as I undergo them every month. So how can I test positive this time?"
"I need the government’s support, they have to consider me as their son," Abdel-Rahman pledged.
"I have been using food supplements for years but with a specific percentage- according to the international criteria. I didn't exceed any percentage as I know it's harmful," the Egyptian javelin thrower said.
"I didn't mind undergoing doping tests in April at my home in El-Sharqiya, so I don’t understand why the results appeared now because they were supposed to be revealed after a month from the test date as usual."
"I have been wronged and need the support of all people. I hope the sports minister helps."
The 27-year-old's fate for the Rio 2016 games that kick-off on 5 August will be decided by the B sample taken on Sunday.
"I ask to attend the test investigation in the laboratory as it's my right to be there with my medical specialist."
"Finally, I feel that I’m living in a nightmare- I know nothing and I hope all the people support me," Ihab Abdel-Rahman concluded.
Abdel-Rahman made history in 2015 when he gave Egypt its first ever medal at the World Championship after winning silver in Beijing.
