Zamalek coach back tracks on resignation following title defeat

Zamalek coach Mohamed Helmi will lead Tuesday's training session after a two-day break as scheduled, a statement read on the club's official website rebuffing previous reports of a conflict within the sides coaching staff and administration.

Helmi had threatened to quit his job following criticism from chairman Mortada Mansour who blamed him for conceding a draw against Masri 2-2 last Friday and officially being knocked out of the title race.

At a press conference held on Sunday Mansour said that "the coaches will not be sacked but they can resign if they want to."

However, former club icons intervened in an attempt for reconciliation that helped reach a resolution.

Zamalek will play Smouha next week before coming face-to-face against their archrivals Ahly in the final day of the league.

Under Mansour's board, the team has hired six coaches this year.

Portuguese tactician Jesualdo Ferreira, who led them into their first double since 1988, quit his job in November after a series of disputes with Mansour.

The Brazilian Marcos Paqueta lasted for only one month after failing to meet expectations.

Scottish coach Alex McLeish, and Ahmed Hossam, popularly known as “Mido” and interim Mohamed Salah had short spells too.
