Recovery certificates for Hep. C patients debut in Egypt: NCCVH official

The Egyptian government will provide treated Hepatitis C patients with medical certificates to prove their recovery from the infection when applying for jobs, Youm7 reported Sunday.

Qadry Saeed, executive manager of the National Committee for Control of Viral Hepatitis (NCCVH,) told Youm7 that the certificates will help ex-patients to “achieve his right to work especially at entities where employees’ health safety is among job conditions.”

Saeed said that patients can provide the certificates, ratified by the Health Ministry, to concerned bodies like embassies and consulates inside and outside the country.

He added that this procedure is a first in Egypt, and only appeared after a government-run program to treat patients with Hepatitis C..

Having one of the highest infection rates of hepatitis C infection in the world, Egypt began to treat patients with imported medications that have proved a breakthrough in treating the virus.

The government has recently halted importing treatments, replacing them with locally-manufactured drugs. It announced its hopes to cure some 500,000 patients during 2016 using domestically produced drugs.
