35 parks open for Sham el-Nessim celebrators amid tightened security

Cairo’s Orman Park and 34 other parks in Egypt are ready to welcome the Sham el-Nessim celebrators, while  police have intensified security at visitor attractions Monday.

Female police officers have been dispersed to areas where crowds gather during holidays and sexual harassment is known to occur, such as at movie theaters and parks, Youm7 reported.

Police officers are also located at areas where people take Nile ferries and boats, in case an accident occurs and quick intervention is needed.

Sham el-Nessim is an Egyptian public holiday marking the beginning of Spring and comes after Easter. It’s tradition for Egyptian’s to eat eggs and salted fish called “Fesikh,” “Ringa,” and “Melouha” on this day. Celebrations include visiting zoos and parks.
