Thirteen Egyptians were deported from Saudi Arabia Sunday for violating labor laws; three were arrested at Cairo Airport for after discovering they were at-large convicts, Youm7 reported.
The deportees arrived in a Saudi Airlines plane coming from Jeddah. During investigations upon their arrival in Cairo, they said they had disputes with their Saudi sponsors, prompting them to escape and try to find jobs in a different place in the Kingdom.
Saudi law allows work sponsors to withhold the visas and passports of their employees for the term of employment; hence some deportees arrive in their countries with travel documents issued by their embassies and consulates in Saudi Arabia.
Thus far, at least 111 Egyptians have been deported from the oil-rich Kingdom in April, while in March, at least 118 others were deported.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly warned citizens not to overstay their visas in Saudi Arabia or return to the kingdom illegally after deportation.
According to a report issued by the Saudi Labor Department in 2014, the number of Egyptians working in the Kingdom was estimated at 968,000 at the end of 2013, representing about 40 percent of the total Arab expatriate workforce.
