7 top officials at Expo & Convention Authority to be tried over fire
Seven officials at the Egypt Expo & Convention Authority (EECA) were referred to an urgent trial Sunday for failing to handle a massive fire at the complex, Youm7 reported.

The defendants include the EECA’s head of the engineering affairs of, head of the halls affairs, head of the storehouse affairs, head of the security department, head of the fire control department, head of the mechanical systems and head of the surveillance department.

“Investigations revealed gross negligence that marred the system of the EECA by depending on an unqualified, unequipped person in light of detestable routine that lacked supervision, control and administration and exacerbated until dealing with a fire inside the vital facility became a figment of imagination,” according to the referral order.

The officials face charges of gross negligence and failing to fulfill their tasks in maintaining water networks and early warning systems, leading the fire to rage on a wide-scale, prompting the military to intervene to put out the flames.

On March 4, a blaze at the EECA headquarters in Nasr City inflicted a loss of 5.3 million EGP.
