New tomb discovered in Luxor

An Egyptian-American mission in Luxor has discovered a tomb from the 26th dynasty, the Ministry of Antiquities announced Monday.

The tomb of Padisbastet, the “Overseer of Upper Egypt, High Stewart of the God’s Wife” was found in the main burial chamber, and further cleaning of the area is expected to yield further details, mission director Elena Pischikova said, according to the ministry statement.

Minister of Antiquitites Mamdouh El-Damaty stated that the discovery sheds light on the tombs of nobles; Padibastet is assumed to have been a high official who took over the tomb of Karabasken, who was the mayor of Thebes in the 25th dynasty.
