Zahran said Egypt must move toward a relationship with Iran, adding that increased regional relations will add to Egypt political and economic gains.
Zahran denied accusations that the delegation travelled to Iran to export Shiism to Egypt. He said that the aim is to build new alliances to achieve a diplomatic balance, preventing a Turkish monopoly in the region.
Political will along official sides in Egypt and Iran is absent, said Zahran, adding that the Egyptian side should move forward in establishing relations with Iran and others in the region. Zahran said that the Egyptian presidency does not take the delegation seriously, despite its importance in enhancing regional relations.
He asked for flights between Cairo and Iran to be restored and for an increase in economic cooperation between the two countries.
