President Abdel Fatah al Sisi received Tuesday 20 Egyptian labors who had been abducted by militants near Libya’s city of Tobruk upon arrival in the Cairo International Airport, Youm7 reported.
The workers, all from a village in Upper Egypt’s governorate of Minya, were scheduled to arrive Monday aboard a private plane but poor weather conditions delayed their arrival to Tuesday, security source told Youm7.
On Sunday, Egyptian security forces in coordination with authorities in Libya freed the abductees who were reportedly detained by Islamic State militants in Libya since December, according to Youm7.
In Feb. 2015, IS militants in Libya released a video showed the beheading of 21 Egyptian Christians, a move that led Egypt to launch airstrikes against the group.
