Yasmine el-Narsh, 40, who was the subject of a recent viral video in which she was insulting and beating a police officer at Cairo airport, was sentenced Saturday to four years in prison.
North Cairo Criminal Court issued its verdict against El-Narsh, who is known in the local media as “The Airport’s woman,” and ruled to fine her 50, 000 EGP ($6380.)
El-Narsh’s video sparked social media criticism. It surfaced on April 28 when she was believed to be en route to Sharm el-Sheikh. The confrontation between her and the Egypt Air officer started when she was informed that the flight was overbooked and full.
After being inspected, it was found that she was in possession of approximately 200 grams of hash. The drugs were confiscated and she was detained for drug possession and insulting the officer, according to Youm7.
In May, the late Attorney General Hisham Barakat ordered her referral to the criminal court on charges of drug possession and assaulting a police officer.
