A consultant office to technically supervise the construction of the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is expected to be selected during a visit by Egyptian Minister of Irrigation Hossam Moghazy to Addis Ababa this week.
Moghazy will leave for Ethiopia Tuesday evening to meet with his counterparts from Ethiopia and Sudan to task an international consultancy firm with implementing hydraulic and environmental studies on the dam, currently under construction.
The studies, which would be presented within five months to a year, will determine the time during which the dam can be filled without affecting water flow to Sudan and Egypt.
The firm was planned to be named in March, but both Egypt and Ethiopia chose different offices. A French or a Dutch consultant will be chosen, el-Balad news website reported Moghazy as saying.
