A man was killed and two others injured on Sunday in Egypt's central Beni Suef governorate in clashes between citizens and the police in the village of El-Maymoun.
Beni Suef security directorate released a statement saying the clashes are part of a crackdown targeting "criminal" sites in several villages, including El-Maymoun.
The statement said that while police were attempting to arrest suspects in the village, a man started shooting at security forces, who returned fire and killed him. It noted he was a member of the banned Muslim Brotherhood group.
In its statement, the directorate also said that police have seized 21 firearms, implemented 131 court rulings, and arrested three Muslim Brotherhood members.
According to Al-Ahram, the village is home to a large Muslim Brotherhood community.
