CAIRO: The 50-member committee tasked with amending the suspended 2012 constitution has included an article from the Italian constitution which would allow citizens to file lawsuits against ministers, said Tamarod movement founder and representative in the committee Mahmoud Badr.
In an interview with ONTV, Badr said that the article was suggested by head of the Journalists Syndicate Diaa Rashwan, and added that the committee is requesting a “direct dialogue” between ministers and citizens.
He said that one of the prominent demands in the committee is the abolition of the Shura Council and that they –members of the committee- increase the Health Ministry’s budget to 3 percent and Education Ministry from 80 million EGP (approximately U.S. $ 11 million) to 120 million EGP in the new constitution.
He added that one of the gains in the new constitution is articles that guarantee economic and social rights; he noted that an article stipulates that a two-thirds majority in parliament would be able to remove a president if he failed to govern well.
