In his meeting with the anchor Ezzat Poulos in “Controversial Figures” talk show on Copts United TV, Dr. Naguib Abadir, founder of the Egyptians Party and Alternate member of the 50-members Committee to amend 2012 constitution, said that to amend the 2012 constitution was the mistake of June 30 revolution that eliminated this constitution.
“We should accept the amendments, only if we find them good enough for the future of our home land. Yet, in case we don’t accept them, we should return to the constitution of 1971”
He added he had presented an article for the affirmative action as it is accepted by many countries and already applied in 108 countries around the world. Furthermore, it is badly needed in Egypt.
Abadir explained that Al-Azhar’ representative in the committee told him that however Islam has only known a civil state, he decided to accept removing the phrase “Civil State” from the constitution because of the strong debate about it.
He added that having a quota for the Copts won’t solve their problems or prevent attacking their properties and churches. Yet, positive discrimination should help them claim their rights.
