CAIRO: Workers from Crystal Asfour organized a sit-in and after eight days of protests, their demands were met. The media secretary of the Egyptian Democratic Party in Qalyubia Mohamed Ali Nour said they initially agreed on 11 demands after a meeting between the representatives of the protesting workers and Crystal Asfour company owner.
The workers protested against deficiencies in the health treatment system, called for change of the profits system and make it annually instead of monthly, to change the social security system, to allocate a proper end of service benefits, for salary increases, and a pollution allowance.
The Democratic Egyptian Party held a press conference on Monday to meet with Crystal Asfour Company and the factory workers to hear their complaints to reach a practical solution.
The representatives of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, along with member of the Federation of Trade Unions of Egypt Adel Rabeea, succeeded in holding a meeting with the Ministers of Solidarity Ahmed Boraie, of Manpower Kamal Abu Eita, representatives of the civil society organization, the General Union for Egyptian Labor, and the founder of the Lawyers Front for Defending the Crystal Asfour Workers.
The Crystal Asfour workers had been demonstrating in Shubra el-Kheima for the past week, protesting the company management who fired them and cut the wages of the remaining staff due to the company’s financial difficulties given the current economic and political climate.
