Egypt's Brotherhood to sue pro-Mubarak TV host Okasha

The Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) announced on Wednesday that it planned to take legal action against anti-revolution television host Tawfiq Okasha.

The FJP has lodged a complaint with Egypt's public prosecutor requesting the closure of Okasha's Faraeen television channel, which, the party alleged, is used "as a tool to defame, slander and commit crimes."

According to FJP legal consultant Ahmed Abu Baraka, Okasha has "resorted to the lowest means of delivering his media message." Abu Baraka asserted that Okasha was using the channel to "take revenge on the Brotherhood on behalf of the ousted Mubarak regime."

Okasha’s show was banned previously for using profane and defamatory language. The controversial television presenter has also openly criticised many prominent pro-revolution figures.

Late last year, Okasha ran in Egypt's first post-Mubarak parliamentary polls for his hometown Mansoura in the Dakhaliya governorate, but lost.
