Egypt ranks among the lowest in coronavirus deaths worldwide; higher mortality rates among men, cancer and heart patients

Egyptian Health Minister Hala Zayed said on Tuesday that Egypt ranked among the lowest in countries worldwide regarding the number of deaths from the coronavirus, adding that those with chronic diseases were the first in terms of deaths.

Egypt reported 94 new fatalities on Tuesday, bringing the total number of deaths to 1,766 so far.
 
The country has recorded 47,856 coronavirus cases so far, including 12,730 full recoveries.
 
The country is ranked 24th in the worldometer website s ranking of countries by COVID-19 death toll.
 
“The COVID-19 death rates were higher among patients with cancer heart disease, digestive system diseases, liver and kidney disease,” Zayed said during a press conference.
 
She added that that 60 percent of the fatalities are over 60 years old.
 
The breakdown of coronavirus patients in Egypt is 55 percent men compared to 45 percent women, while 80 percent of the cases are aged between 30 to 60 years old, according to the minister s statements.
 
“The infection rate for those over 70 is 7 percent only,” she said
 
Zayed revealed that people with chronic diseases, patients with chest diseases and pregnant women were the most susceptible to COVID-19 infections.
 
She also revealed that the governorates with the highest number of cases are Cairo, Giza, Qalioubiya and Fayoum, while the lowest rates are in Marsa Matrouh, North Sinai, South Sinai, New Valley and the Red Sea.
