The US Embassy Minister-Counsellor for Public Affairs Helen LaFave congratulated 720 young Egyptians for developing exceptional English language skills by completing the two-year long US Embassy English Access Micro Scholarship Programme.
On Sunday, at the Cairo Opera House, the graduation ceremony gathered graduates from across Egypt to meet and network with other students.
The students hailed from Alexandria, Assiut, Banha, Beni Sweif, Cairo, Damanhour, Damietta, Edfu, Esna, Hurghada, Ismailia, Kom Ombo, Luxor, Malawi, Mansoura, Minya, Nubia, Port Said, Qous, Samalout, Sohag, and South Sinai.
Congratulating the graduates, LaFave said, “You have worked hard over the past two years to learn a language utilised throughout the world, and in doing so you have also gained confidence and positioned yourselves to be competitive for jobs and educational opportunities which require English communication skills.”

Sponsored by the US Department of State, the English Access Micro Scholarship Programme provides students with two years of high-quality English language training and the opportunity to participate in extracurricular language learning and leadership activities. The American University in Cairo, AMIDEAST, and the Egyptian Education Resource Association, as implementing partners, conduct the classes.
Interestingly, since 2006, more than 5,000 talented Egyptian youth from underprivileged backgrounds have learned English through the Access Programme.
Globally, more than 100,000 students have graduated from the programme.
