Egypts Sisi attends Differently Abled conference; PM issues statute on persons with disabilities

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is attending an event titled  Differently Abled  in celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The event is attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Social Solidarity Minister Ghada Wali, as well as a number of other ministers and officials.
The event is hosted by professional athlete Rahma Khaled, who took to the airwaves earlier this month to become the first Egyptian with Down Syndrome to be a TV presenter. The show is also co-hosted by two young men with special needs.
Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi gave a speech where he expressed his pride to be participating in the celebration.
The minister praised the care showed by the president and the efforts exerted by Egypt s young people in this respect, and highlighted that 2018 was announced as the year for disabled people.
Also on Monday, Madbouly issued a statute regulating the rights of disabled persons.
The premier urged all state bodies to put into effect this statute to guarantee the integration of citizens with disabilities into the country s development process.
Under the law, governmental and non-governmental bodies are required to provide a package of services to disabled citizens in health, education and other domains.
The statute also obliges the ministers of health and social solidarity to create a database with information on all disabled citizens.
Under the law, disabled persons are entitled to monthly cash support if they are unable to work due to their disability.
The law also stipulates that at least 5 percent of social housing units should be allocated to people with disabilities and that cars for disabled persons should be customs free.
