The Ministry of the Interior’s Prison Sector pardoned and released 1,011 inmates on Sunday on Eid al-Fitr occasion in accordance to Presidential Decree No. 280/2017.
The Prison Sector headed by Major General Mohamed al-Khelaisy ordered the pardon and release of 913 inmates who have served the majority of their sentence.
The sector released 98 other inmates conditionally.
On Friday, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi issued a decree pardoning 502 prisoners, including 25 women and large number of youth detained over involvement in protests.
Business tycoon Hisham Talaat Mostafa was among those released by the presidential pardon.
