The North Coast

The North Coast of Egypt, or Sahel as it is widely known in Arabic, is mostly associated with a vibrant lifestyle and hip social hubs.

But what about those who want to enjoy its exhilarating beaches away from all the hustle and bustle of the city?

A 45-minute drive from Alexandria and a short 30 minute drive from Borg El-Arab International Airport, Sahel’s Iberotel Borg El-Arab resort makes a perfect gateway from hectic lifestyles.

Cozy and luxurious, this beach resort on the Mediterranean Sea features a large garden terrace with swimming pool.

Near the the Agami side of the coast, the 5-star resort offers a mix of interconnected pools, modern amenities and great location.

The resort overlooks the Mediterranean, which looks like a topaz gemstone with a very blue sky in the background.

Some rooms feature a balcony with sea views, and there are also chalets with pool and sea views which offer more convenience for pool fans or for families.

On a beautiful terrace, the resort offers entertainment programmes such as shows by an animation team for both children and adults.

As for the food, the hotel has an a la carte restaurant serving Arab and international cuisine as well as an open buffet restaurant with a great view.

Iberotel is also only 45-km away from the world heritage site of the Monastery of Saint Mina, a Coptic Orthodox monastery in the Western Desert near Alexandria.

Even though the hotel is a bit overpriced, with a deluxe double room at almost EGP 2000 per night for two persons, it could be considered rather reasonable compared to other hotels on the North Coast.

Renting chalet

In this quiet area, Iberotel Borg El-Arab is the only hotel available. The rest are in the bustling nearby settlement of Sidi Abdel-Rahman.

Another option, however, is to rent a chalet in the area, which is a popular option for larger groups.

Vacationers often rent through acquaintances, but if you can also find properties on websites such as booking.com, or on Facebook groups such as Rent in Sahel, in both Arabic and English.

Prices of properties vary according to the location.

However, a lot of vacationers recommend inspecting the property first.

But most importantly, if you plan on going to the North Coast before school starts and summer ends or during the Eid Al-Adha holiday, make sure to reserve as soon as possible, as most properties are quickly sold out.

Sometimes described as the hidden gem of Sahel, this area truly is special. For those craving some relaxation in the summer, you won't find a nicer spot than the Iberotel Borg El-Arab hotel.
