Egypt strongly condemns nightclub shooting in Florida

Egypt strongly condemned on Sunday the “terrorist attack” in the state of Florida in the US which claimed the lives of 50 people and injured dozens.

Earlier on Sunday, an armed man opened fire at a nightclub in the the city of Orlando in Florida, killing at least 50 people and injuring a dozen others in an attack that was described as the “worst” in U.S. recent history.

Police killed the shooter, who is believed to belong to Islamic State fighters in Syria and Iraq (ISIS), but U.S. officials cautioned they had no direct evidence of a connection, Reuters reported.

U.S. President Barack Obama said that it is “an act of terror”, adding that the U.S. has not yet reached a “definitive judgement on the precise motivations of the killer.”

Obama said the Florida shooting marks the most “deadly” in U.S. history.

In its statement, Egypt’s foreign ministry expressed solidarity with U.S citizens and offered sincere condolences to the families of the victims.
