The Cairo Criminal Court on Saturday adjourned the trial of former president Mohamed Morsi and 10 other Muslim Brotherhood defendants in the case publicly known as the “Espionage with Qatar,” to May 7, Youm7 reported.
The defendants face charges of “leaking confidential documents of the state’s national security and Egyptian armed forces to Qatari T.V. channel of Al-Jazeera” during Morsi’s one-year tenure.
Security forces were intensively deployed in the vicinity of the Cairo-Based Police Academy where the trial was held.
The trial has seen a total of 29 sessions so far, some of which were held behind closed doors.
The trial is Morsi’s fourth since he was ousted by the military on July 3, 2013, following a mass protest against his rule on June 30, 2013.
In June 2015, he was also sentenced to life in prison on charges of spying for Palestinian group Hamas, Lebanese group Hezbollah, and Iran. The same court also upheld a death sentence against Morsi over breaking out of jail during the 2011 uprising.
In April 2015, He was also sentenced to 20 years in jail for inciting and violence in the “Presidential Palace Clashes” case.
However, all the said sentences are currently appealed.
