Canada to grant Egypt $50M for education development

Canada is expected to provide Egypt 50 million Canadian dollars in aid ($38.34 million USD) to subsidize nutrition of Egyptian and Syrian students in Egypt, and improve education systems in six Egyptian governorates, as well as support development for women and youth, the Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation stated Wednesday.

Minister Sahr Nasr met with Canadian ambassador to Cairo Troy Lulashnyk Tuesday to discuss the deal, the statement added.

The volume of Canadian aid to Egypt since the beginning of international cooperation between both sides in 1976 has reached 1.160 billion Canadian dollar (around U.S.$874,128 million) in grants and loans, the statement continued.

Four days ago, Egypt and Germany signed two memoranda of understanding to upgrade the education system in Egypt as Berlin will grant Cairo €25,38 million in grants, the ministry said in another statement.
